The stabilised telescope for impressive digiscoping on the water.
The APC 60 ED from KITE OPTICS is the world's first image-stabilised telescope that can be operated entirely with one hand. However, serious digiscopers know that the best results are achieved with a well-thought-out setup.
The APC 60 ED really comes into its own when observing nature from a boat, for example on rivers, lagoons or mangroves. While classic telescopes quickly reach their limits due to vibrations and lack of stability, the APC, with its integrated gimbal stabilisation system, offers surprisingly stable images, ideal for taking sharp, detailed photos or videos with your mobile phone.
It is perfect for digiscoping from a boat, and we have tested it ourselves.
Whether in Costa Rica on the Tárcoles River, the Sierpe River or in the lagoons of Barra Colorado, the APC 60 ED has proven to be a reliable companion for obtaining high-quality images in moving conditions. Its great advantage is that, with a suitable adapter, stable images can be obtained even without a tripod, provided that the telescope is lightly supported by a railing, beanbag or other improvised support.
For maximum control during digiscoping with a mobile phone, the Ardea CF tripod, in combination with the Manfrotto MVH500AH video head, has proven its effectiveness in our tests in Costa Rica.
Here are the reasons why the APC 60 ED is ideal for digiscoping:
- Active stabilisation: the KDGS-TTK system compensates for movements in real time, providing much better results in photos and videos.
- Compact and easy to carry: ideal for excursions where every kilo counts.
- Modularly expandable: the eyepiece is interchangeable and compatible with the KSP 80 HD, perfect for those who already use Kite optics.
- Long-lasting, providing up to 30 hours of stabilisation on a single battery charge, which is perfect for long excursions.
Important note on use for digiscoping:
Although the APC 60 ED allows for manual use, a stable surface is essential for high-quality digiscoping. Simultaneously operating the telescope, smartphone adapter, camera app and focus requires more than two hands. Therefore, we recommend semi-stationary use, for example, resting on the edge of a boat, to take full advantage of its potential.
